In fact I couldn't argue that the Forza series in general wasn't a GT copycat. Forza team even uses actual car exhaust sounds and impliments them in the game. What racing games are considered simulation? In Forza you can change just about everything on your vehicle just like GT. In fact when Forza 1 came out, everyone was calling it a GT copy cat. So the GT series is a simulation, but the Forza series minus Horizon 1 and 2 is not? Grand Turismo series plays just like Forza. In fact when people would come over to play Forza 1 on original Xbox with me they would ask "which GT are you playing"? Not to mention, even in Forza Horizon 2, when I change a setting on my car, weather it be spring dampness or tire pressure, I feel the car drives different each time I change a setting. So if your saying Forza isn't a racing simulation, I'll take it that the GT series in not as well. Tl dr, GTAV isn't arcade, it's just sh*t, and forza isn't a sim. Forza doesn't try to fully simulate real-life mechanics. Too many people here know f*ck all about racing games, they see a track and think "hur dur sim". Driving in games like SR and GTAV isn't what you do for fun, it's just appealing to the lowest common denominator of people who want to get from A to B.Īnd for f*ck sake, stop calling Forza a sim. Games like GTAV and SR try to piggy back on that "fun" by making sh*tty dumbed down driving and calling it "arcade". You stilll have you think about racing lines, throttle control in the heavier cars, and avoiding collisions. It's fast paced, it's engaging, but it still follows the basic rules of driving. Midnight Club series, mostly MC3 and MCLA, have good arcade handling. there are games with good arcade handling, and games with bad arcade handling. One problem is people think "arcade" means either "wow fun" or "bad". it's sh*tty "arcade" slapped on driving mechanics with a poorly implemented race mode. No, esmitty, GTA isn't its own genre, it's nothing revolutionary. Also you’re forgetting about other arcade racers which have better customisation options such as the Need For Speed series and the latest two Grids. I would prefer to see more offline/online mission created by R* than money being wasted on trying to create a proper racing game inside GTA. Also in most simulators all these things can be turned off, so I don’t see why anyone should have a problem with it.Īdding extra customisation options and increased realism is overkill for a game like GTA in my opinion. usually isn’t a problem for me in most simulatorish games because I prefer races that don’t last longer than 10-15 minutes. Having to deal with tires wear, pit stops etc. I don’t mind this in GTA style races though, because you’re actually supposed to do this. In GTA I think it’s particularly annoying that most people I play with don’t seem to realise that you should slipstreaming instead of relying on catchup. I also prefer to play single player because in every online racing game there are idiots who think that smashing into another player’s car is going to increase their chance of winning. Personally I prefer simulatorish racing over arcade racing. I'm getting my first Forza games (Motorsport 5 and Horizon 2) for Christmas and I have the feeling that I'll be playing those two games a lot more. My, personally prefer both, depending on how I'm feeling. I want to know what your thoughts on this subject is and what type of game you prefer. purely to cater to arcade-like racers looking for a relaxing thrill. I personally don't think, for this reason exactly, that R* will ever try to get more in depth with car customization and performance like drivetrain, engine swapping, tire pressure, etc. I agree in a sense that people look for a quick sense of fun usually choose GTA over Forza or GT while those that enjoy motorsport and real life consequences favor the simulators. Much more was said on the subject to be remembered, but I remember the entire thesis of what my friend was saying. I don't think that games are supposed to be realistic like many think, but just fun to those that can't do it in real life, but that's my opinion and how I feel about it. I don't like going through pit stops and having to deal with real life problems that are not relevant in Grand Theft Auto.
